Here in the UK, fire safety in the workplace is governed by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and in Scotland The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, and the associated Fire Safety Scotland Regulations 2006.

There is a requirement in the UK for portable fire extinguishers to be serviced and maintained to the current standard, by a “Competent Person”.

Designed to suit the needs of the modern business, the order was made to replace most fire safety legislation with one simple order. It means that any person who has some level of control in a premise must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk from fire and make sure people can safely escape if there is a fire.
